Estimado Sr. Presidente:

Dear Mr. George W. Bush

I urge you to support a comprehensive approach to reforming our immigration system and to oppose “enforcement-only” proposals like HR4437 that purport to get tough, but that are doomed to fail without a concomitant reform of our laws.  Our immigration laws are fundamentally broken, and we need a realistic, comprehensive solution, not more of the same failed policies.

The proposal of a temporary, guest worker program is a step in that direction.  However, it does not address the need of the many immigrants to change their immigration status to one of permanent residency.  It leaves millions without a just solution.

Immigrants who have worked hard, pay taxes and demonstrated good moral character, deserve the opportunity to obtain permanent residency and eventually, become citizens of this nation.

I again request you include the right to permanent residency in all immigration reform legislation.

Sincerely,

Dear Mr. Cornyn:

We who subscribe live in the Greater Houston Area.  We all work and contribute with our taxes to the betterment of our community.

As concerned Texas residents we urge you to support a comprehensive approach to reforming our immigration system and to oppose to enforcement-only proposals that are destined to fail without a concomitant reform of our immigration laws.  We don’t need to burden our law enforcement system by forcing them to criminalize undocumented immigrants and those who provide humanitarian aid to them.

The immigration system needs to change in order to open possibilities to hard working, family oriented migrants to legalize their status and continue contributing to the greatness of this country with their talents and work ethics.

Study after study has proven that immigrants are not a burden to our society; with their work and taxes they are helping keep USA economy vibrant.  We also know that USA cities with a low immigration influx lack economic dynamism.  In contrast, cities with a vibrant economy are those with a large immigrant population.  Houston is a great example of how a diverse society yields better social and economic outcomes.

Sincerely,
